Increase in trade flows in Europe, particularly in the shape of road transport, has led to a growing awareness of problems with the environment and with road capacity. Thus good forecasting for different situations has become needed.Recently developed hardware and software have enabled researchers to use hypothetical data in forecasting travellers' and shippers' mode and route choice. Further, it is now possible to combine information from both revealed and stated preference data in the development of choice models, and thus explore positive characteristics from both data sets. Models based on such data have improved the capabilities to predict more accurately individuals' mode and route choice. The report describes the use of stated preference data on mode choice modelling for long-distance freight transport. The model appears promising for mode choice effects of various transport attributes. The results suggest that a fairly simple model, in the form of a logit model, can reproduce the observed choices with high accuracy.
